From the Principal’s Desk:

Dear Parents,

We are into the second half of the year and as a Management team and SGB we would like to make every effort to achieve the goals we set out for the year; and that includes the building of 2 classrooms which will greatly benefit our learners and teachers.

The investigations and process began last year and we have reached a point now where the plans have been drawn up for the classrooms and the estimated cost given to us. The plans are presently being submitted to the council for approval.

We would like to appeal to all parents to assist us by ensuring that all outstanding school fees are settled as soon as possible. We would not like this project to be comprised because of non-payment of school fees.

I take this opportunity to thank all those parents who have paid all their school fees up to date. I urge all the other parents to commit themselves to settle any outstanding debt.

We will also be embarking on a few fund raising initiatives to boost our funds, so please assist us by cooperating with the school.

FUND RAISING

The school is on a fund raising drive so that we are able to build two new class rooms at the school.  These class rooms will make a big difference to the lives of both educators and pupils.

Please support the National women’s day raffle.  The more tickets you can sell the more we can collect for the fund raising drive.

There will also be a pajama / civvies day on the 8th August as part of the fund raising.

The Heritage day concert needs your support for it to be a successful event.  There will be more communication about this event closer to the time.

HOLIDAYS

School closes on 28th September 2018 and opens on 9th October 2018.  Please make sure you have made travel arrangements.

HERITAGE DAY CONCERT

Come and help us celebrate our heritage.

Heritage Concert will be held on the 27th September. Our theme this year is International cultures.

The cost of the tickets will be R70-00 per person.

GRADE R

Dear Grade R Parents / Guardians

A warm welcome to all our young learners for this term.  Time flies and the weather is changing to spring.

We are happy that most of our kids have been attending the school since it re-opened for the third term.

Thank you to our parents for the continuous support to your child with their education.

There is a lot of improvement taking place at the  Grade R site.

  • Playground equipment being painted and renovated.
  • Tiger class under the supervision of Ms. Malinga has moved to a newly constructed well furnished classroom
  • Assembly every Monday morning at 7h30 to 8h00 in Ms. Malinga’s classroom.
  • Graduation will be on Dec 1st 2018.  Graduation fee of R280-00 can be paid at the office or via direct deposit into the bank account using the child’s name and surname and graduation as the reference .

Thank you for your support.

Nena Meth.

Grade R co-coordinator.

FOUNDATION PHASE

Dear Foundation Phase parents

Greetings

From now till the end of the school year, is a little more than 4 months!

During this time you need to assist your child to ensure that he/she is ready for the next grade.

Please assist with daily reading and learning spelling words. Many children are not doing their homework and parents are not checking that it is done.

Assessment plans indicating the assessment tasks will be issued – these indicate what your child will be “tested” on. Use these to ensure your child knows the work required. Assessment is ongoing and takes place daily during the term.

Please ensure that your child is not absent unnecessarily as frequent absence impacts on the quality of learning taking place; however if your child is sick please do not send them to school as we do not have the facilities to care for them.

Thank you, to the parents who attended the Parents evening to discuss their child’s progress. If you did not attend, please ensure that you make an appointment to see your child’s teacher to collect reports and to discuss progress if you have not already done so. There are many uncollected reports going back to the first term, this indicates to us, that some parents are not interested in their child’s progress and wellbeing!

INTERSEN PHASE

Dear Parents,

Welcome to the third term.  On reflection I felt that the first half of the year has just flown past and now we have the yearend beckoning.

If I had to equate our academic year to a professional golf tournament then the third term is the “moving” term.  It is a term where students can look to recover from bad results and aspire to catching their peers who are “up the leader board.”

Do not waste this opportunity.  Focus, hard work and dedication to the tasks at hand always pay dividends.

Having said that I will also like to remind parents that their constant supervision and encouragement will guarantee the desired results

As you already know  we at Melpark constantly engage your child at every level so that holistic development is achieved.   This term sees your child involved in our Annual Speech Contest and the ever popular Heritage Day Concert.  Please encourage them to participate.  We are committed to providing your child stimulating activities and according them the freedom to choose.

Mrs Havenga and Miss Hastings will again have your children training in the arduous disciplines of Gymnastics and Traditional Games.  We are equally excited to see the final product on display.

As I wish you a successful term ahead, I feel inclined to leave you with the wise words of L. R. Krost  who said “Every day, in a 100 small ways, our children ask ‘do you hear me?  Do you see me? Do I matter?”  Their behaviour often reflects our responses.”

Yours sincerely,

Mr. A. Beekhan
